A husk is a remnant, a dry outer covering that once held, protected, or concealed something within it. It remains after something has grown, departed, or been removed, holding traces of what was there while making space for something else. A husk can shelter as much as it can be discarded, holding together the possibilities of protection and exposure, fullness and emptiness. Husk explores these relations through forms resembling nests, honeycombs, and shells, made from paper, fabric, clay, and other materials. These forms remember the folds of skin, flesh, hair, and soft tissue, bringing attention to how bodies hold and are held by other bodies. Through gathering, wrapping, folding, and shedding, Husk explores the intimacies and horrors of nurturing as acts of holding and protecting can also enclose, alter, or expose the bodies they hold.
